Electrical Engineering Intern

Position Description: Apex Engineering Group has an opening for an Electrical Engineering Intern in our Electrical Group located in our Fargo, ND office. Primary responsibilities include the development of workflow automation tools for Microsoft Excel, Word and Access and integration with Autodesk CAD software packages. All candidates shall be capable of working independently and collaboratively while contributing to the design and development of assigned tasks. The intern will report to a Senior Engineer and/or Electrical Technician while working in a team environment.

Qualification Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Pursuing BS or MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or applicable discipline.
  • Years of Experience 0-3.
  • Solid written and verbal skills are required. Must be able to interact with people at all levels and communicate effectively.
  • Background translating cell formulas in Excel into VBA code.
  • Ability to programmatically manipulate worksheets and cell properties and debug/code difficult functions/macros using VBA.
  • Create Dashboard in MS Excel.
  • Automate, modify, and optimize tasks in Excel and/or Access.
  • Possess advanced skills with Microsoft 365 including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (i.e. complex formulas)
  • Experienced in migration of databases to MS Access utilizing tables, queries, forms, reports, macros, and modules a plus.
  • Experienced in SQL statements, stored procedures using SQL a plus.
  • Must possess problem solving skills and be proactive in researching solutions.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit and operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
Typical Tasks and Duties:
  • Confer with design team to gain understanding of needs.
  • Develop Excel based application to enter data without having to enter data into numerous delivered screens, move/format data between sheets based on selection criteria using the Excel Object Model, VBA, Events Combo boxes in Microsoft Applications, including Excel, Access and Word.
  • Create advanced formulas, user defined functions and formulaic arrays for data analysis.
  • Convert Excel formulas into VBA code including VLOOKUP HLOOKUP.
  • Develop macros for data automation.
  • Design Dashboard in Excel.
  • Develop Microsoft Access Databases, including tables, queries, forms and reports.
  • Import and Export databases between Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel and SQL.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure best practices and established standards are in use.
  • Develop test plans and software documentation to support new releases and code modifications.
  • Prepare program level and user level documentation.
  • Understand and follow company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
  • Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.
  • Attend company, team and client meetings as needed.
  • Minimum 10 – 20 hours per week.
