North University Drive – 32nd Av to 40th Ave

Project Summary:

Project Type:
Urban Reconstruction

Owner:
City of Fargo, ND

Overview:

The City of Fargo is planning a project to improve a 1-mile stretch of North University Drive between 32nd Avenue N and 40th Avenue N. The purpose of the project is to replace the aging asphalt pavement with new concrete pavement, to urbanize the existing rural roadway section by lowering the road and eliminating narrow shoulders and steep slopes, and to install a shared-use path through the entire corridor. The City of Fargo contracted Apex Engineering Group to complete preliminary design, environmental clearance, FAA coordination and permitting, and public involvement process for the project, as well as completing the final design and plan preparation.

Project Details:

The project consists of reconstructing North University Drive to a concrete 2-lane or 3-lane urban section with curb and gutter, shared-use path, and new storm sewer and watermain. A roundabout is also being considered at the 40th Avenue N intersection. The project includes public involvement and coordination, as well as significant coordination and involvement with FAA and the Fargo Airport Authority since Hector Airport property is adjacent to the roadway, and since North University Drive crosses the Runway Protection Zone for Runway 9/27. Design is currently ongoing with construction scheduled for 2021.
