Project Details:

The Clinic has many uses and a variety of occupancies that require multiple special systems throughout the facility. The systems all inner connect within different areas of the building. Apex carefully considered ways to reduce costs and save space to provide Sanford Health with the best solution.

The new clinic was designed with a quick construction schedule in mind. The two-story facility was built in approximately 12 months and was opened in February of 2014. The building has provisions for a five story Emergency Trauma Center adjacent to the current structure.

The lighting system throughout the facility is fully automatic with digital controls in all corridors and large lobby areas. Individual rooms have vacancy sensors that require a manual on, but will turn off when no motion or sound is detected in the room after a pre-set amount of time. The exterior lighting uses LED technology for low maintenance and low operational costs. All exterior fixtures are connected to the central lighting control system.

A diesel emergency generator is located on the project site and provides reliable back-up power in accordance with Article 517 of the National Electrical Code. The facility has three separate branches of the emergency system, each with their associated automatic transfer switch.

Special systems designed for this facility include: fiber and copper communication cabling, video conferencing, sound reinforcement, zoned paging, fire alarm, nurse call, video surveillance m, and access control. The access control system covers more than 100 sets of doors and numerous integrated automatic operators and magnetic locks on prescription casework.

The ambulatory surgery suite has two full scale operating rooms and one endoscopy room, and an associated pre- and post-operation center within the surgical suite. The decontamination and sterilization areas were designed with the future trauma center expansion in mind.
